How do I choose my filter colour?

Confused about which filter colour you need? Don’t worry, this is quite a common question we get asked.

You’ve probably been told your filter colour will be different to the overlay you use. Although this is correct in one way, because the view you get when you look through an overlay at black text on a white page might be different to how it appears when you place it on the text. This is because of colour adaptation on the part of the brain. It might be slightly lighter, or a slightly different shade of that colour.

So your filter colour in your glasses will have to be amended so that you get the same view when looking through the glasses as when the overlay is placed on the text.

This doesn’t mean if you need an orange overlay, that your glasses will be blue. It’s never that drastic!

We’ve never had any customer send their glasses back because the filter was wrong after the tests on our website, and they needed a completely different colour.

If you need a specific colour on the overlay, then our filters are developed to make sure the view you see through the filter matches the colour of the text with the overlay. So if you need an aqua-blue MK overlay, the glasses won’t be the colour you see on the screen. They will be slightly different to ensure consistency with overlay view and filter view.

If none of the standard colours work, then you will need a customised colour. In which case, you can use the customiser, or for a more accurate result; the diagnostic exam.

All you have to do is use any of the tests on our website to find the colour that makes the text on the screen (black on white) easy to read. That’s all. We’ll take care of the rest for you!
